Position: Full-time Behavioral Health Technician 2nd and 3rd Shift

Behavioral Health Technician – 2nd & 3rd Shift

Position Summary

The purpose of the Behavioral Health Technician is to assist in providing a safe environment for individuals. The BHT answers clients’ questions, helps adjust program routine, and reports any changes in the client’s physical or mental condition. The BHT supervises clients during the program with emphasis on client safety and wellbeing.

Shift Schedule

• 2nd Shift – Sunday to Thursday, 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm

• 3rd Shift – Monday to Friday, 11:00 pm – 7:00 am

Essential Duties
  • Records inventory log of all personal belongings, valuables, and return tickets. Tickets and valuables are kept in the safe.
  • Completes required lab requisitions per protocol.
  • Monitors clients at all times, including specific rounds and logging clients’ whereabouts.
  • De‑escalates clients and addresses client problems.
  • Participates in all staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Ensures garbage is disposed of properly throughout the shifts as needed.
  • Monitors group room to ensure cleanliness after each activity.
  • Hands off information necessary for next‑shift technician, maintaining logbook for continuity of care and participating in shift turnover.
  • Attends required staff training.
  • Supervises clients completing the program with emphasis on safety and well‑being.
  • Reminds clients of program rules and regulations as necessary and reports infractions immediately.
  • Provides emotional support for clients while referring them to therapy staff to address clinical issues.
  • Completes assigned paperwork in a neat, timely, and accurate manner.
  • Communicates with other staff as necessary to promote quality client care.
  • Participates in maintaining clean, properly supplied and efficient work areas.
  • Observes and reports safety and maintenance problems.
  • Interacts appropriately with clients, showing respect while maintaining boundaries.
  • Exercises sound professional judgment and seeks assistance as necessary to effectively manage client behavior, including but not limited to suicidal concerns and trauma issues.
  • Protects privacy of all client information in accordance with facility privacy policies and procedures.
  • Transports clients as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Graduate or GED preferred.
  • Experience working in substance abuse and/or mental health preferred.
  • Valid state driving license with no major violations in past five (5) years.

Work Environment

This position requires working in a temperature‑controlled environment 80%‑90% of the time indoors, with potential exposure to violent situations and airborne/blood‑borne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials. Standing, walking, bending, stooping/kneeling, reaching, and pushing are required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
