Overview
The Swine, Cervid, Small Ruminant, and Equine Veterinarian serves as a key member of the Animal Health Division, supporting animal health programs across multiple species. This position provides oversight of the U.S. Swine Health Improvement Plan (US SHIP), program management for cervid, small ruminant, and equine health initiatives, and support of cooperative agreements. It also includes general staff veterinarian duties such as disease investigations and responding to regulatory inquiries from stakeholders.
The role cross-trains in additional programs and contributes to emergency response efforts to support statewide animal health preparedness.
Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for professional veterinary work of considerable difficulty and administrative work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required.
The employee assists in the operations of the Animal Industries Division. This class differs from Veterinarian Diagnostician 2 in that the latter is responsible for laboratory work to isolate and identify causative agents of diseases and to perform epidemic investigations and necropsy examinations; it differs from Veterinarian State in that the latter directs the veterinarian program for the state.
ResponsibilitiesEducation and Experience: Possession of a doctorate in veterinary medicine from an approved school of veterinary medicine and experience equivalent to one year of full-time increasingly responsible professional experience as a Veterinarian.
