Job Summary:The CT Technologist performs Computed Tomography procedures in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures to ensure the best possible patient care services are delivered.
Key Responsibilities- 1. Performs all computed tomography procedures according to established department protocols.
a. Perform appropriate volume of procedures according to patient load.
b. Ensures that the correct patient information, technical settings, and appropriate slice thickness are entered before scanning.
c. Prepare and administer oral and intravenous contrast media according to established guidelines.
d. Perform venipuncture when needed using sterile technique.
e. Complete appropriate patient documentation.
f. Display working knowledge of cross‑sectional anatomy.
g. Process, record, and archive images for evaluation, interpretation, and maintenance.
h. Complete filming of all cases in a timely fashion per radiologists' requirements.
i. Process images for PACS transfer. - 2. Perform all tasks associated with the proper execution of a CT examination in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.
a. Accept assignments from supervisor positively; recognize and perform duties that need to be done even if not routine.
b. Restock and maintain assigned work area/equipment; ensure emergency kit is accurate and current.
c. Perform necessary cleaning of room and equipment.
d. Assist movement of patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, beds and imaging tables.
e. Use appropriate restraint devices as needed. - 3. Perform all assigned RIS transactions to ensure accurate patient and procedure information is recorded in a timely fashion for medical record and billing.
a. Complete patient exam in RIS.
b. Review materials and exam charges, edit/correct as necessary.
c. Review exam information in WIZ, edit as necessary. - 4. Perform visual maintenance checks on all equipment; report malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
a. Perform quality assurance procedures.
b. Provide clear concise information regarding mechanical problems and service needs.
c. Record all equipment downtimes in department log and notify personnel per procedures. - 5. Provide radiation protection to patient, staff and self according to prescribed safety standards.
a. Wear and maintain dosimeter badge properly.
b. Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with radiation safety practices. - 6. Communicate with hospital staff and physicians in the performance of CT scan procedures to exchange pertinent patient information.
a. Assist in scheduling routine and emergency exams.
b. Handle calls with courtesy and efficiency.
c. Communicate identified patient‑related problems using the appropriate chain of command. - 7. Participate in on‑call coverage as needed to ensure 24‑hour coverage.
a. Display flexibility, volunteer to work odd shifts as workload demands. - 8. Demonstrate competency in performing all procedures, age range from neonatal to geriatric.
a. Explain procedures to patient, consider patient's comfort during procedure, understand emotional response after procedure.
b. Respect patient's right to privacy; handle all matters confidentially.
c. Abide by professional code of ethics. - 9. Assist in identifying patient and family learning needs and provide pertinent information regarding the procedure appropriate for age and learning level.
a. Provide verbal education regarding procedure performed for patient/significant other. - 10. Complete all documentation forms as required by department.
