Job Summary

The Certified Surgical Technologist provides proper and efficient care of the patient in the operating room under the direct supervision of the circulating nurse. He/she knows sterile technique, understands basic anatomy and operative procedures, and applies knowledge of instruments and equipment used in the operating rooms.

Shift Details

Full‑time, 4x10s (6:45 a.m. – 5:15 p.m.). Late stay: 1 per week on average. No weekends, no holidays, no call.

Sign‑On Bonus

This full‑time position includes a $20,000 taxable sign‑on bonus, distributed in 4 equal payments over two years. The bonus is not available to current VUMC employees or those who have worked at VUMC within the past twelve months.

Relocation Bonus

Eligible candidates can receive up to $10,000 (taxable) for relocation expenses, payable within 45 days of hire. The amount is based on relocation distance. This bonus is not available to current VUMC employees or those who have worked at VUMC within the past twelve months.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sets up sterile field
  • Passes instruments during procedure
  • Assist OR staff as requested
  • Adheres to practices and policies outlined to ensure patient safety and follows infection control standards
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved specific discipline OR successful completion of a surgical technologist training program during service as a member of any branch of the U.S. armed forces.
  • Less than one year of relevant work experience.
  • Certification from one of the listed issuers:
    NBSTSA CST – National Board of Surgical Technologist and Surgical Assistants, Certified Surgical Technologist;
    NCCT TSC – National Center for Competency Testing, Tech In Surgery.
