Senior Controller
Our client located in Nashville, TN is adding a Senior Controller to their team. They are seeking a hands‑on, high-accountability Senior Controller to lead and scale the accounting function during a critical growth phase.

This is a build‑and‑standardize role. The Senior Controller will be responsible for managing the accounting team, strengthening financial controls, building scalable processes, and ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting across a multi‑entity environment.
Someone who sees gaps as opportunities to create structure, clarity, and accountability. Will require both strategic process thinking and daily operational oversight.
As the Senior Controller you must be comfortable rolling up your sleeves while simultaneously building a finance infrastructure that supports long‑term scalability.
Partner closely with executive leadership to provide financial analysis, budgeting insight, and forecasting support as the company continues to grow.
- Lead, mentor, and manage the accounting team (including Controller-level staff and accounting clerks)
- Assess current team capabilities and design a scalable accounting structure for growth
- Hire, develop, and onboard additional accounting personnel as needed
- Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations
- Build accountability, cadence, and operational discipline within the department
- Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
- Ensure timely and accurate financial statements across all entities
- Improve close timelines and reporting accuracy
- Oversee bank reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
- Maintain fixed asset, depreciation, and debt schedules
- Ensure proper intercompany accounting and allocations across shared services
- Provide financial analysis to support executive decision‑making
- Assist leadership with annual budgeting and periodic forecasting
- Monitor performance against budgets and identify financial trends
- Develop reporting that helps leadership understand profitability, cost drivers, and operational efficiency
- Support leadership with financial insights as the business scales
- Develop, document, and implement standardized accounting policies and procedures
- Establish internal controls to protect company assets and ensure financial integrity
- Build SOPs for all core accounting functions (AP, AR, reconciliations, payroll coordination, etc.)
- Create approval workflows and spending controls
- Ensure audit‑readiness and compliance best practices
- Oversee accounting for multiple business units and affiliated entities
- Standardize revenue recognition and expense allocation methodologies
- Partner with Claims, Repair Platform, and Technology teams to ensure accurate operational reporting
- Monitor company‑wide spending against budget in coordination with leadership
- Evaluate current accounting systems and recommend improvements
- Lead or support future accounting system upgrades or ERP implementations as the business grows
- Implement automation where possible to improve efficiency and reduce manual work
- Improve reporting frameworks for greater transparency and operational decision‑making
- Support cash flow management and forecasting processes
- Monitor payables and receivables cycles
- Identify opportunities to improve working capital efficiency
- Provide clean, reliable financial data to executive leadership for planning purposes
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA strongly preferred)
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Strong technical accounting knowledge (GAAP)
- Experience managing accounting in a multi‑entity environment
- Demonstrated experience building or restructuring accounting teams
- Experience documenting accounting policies and implementing internal controls
- Strong financial reporting and financial analysis capabilities
- Experience working with external accounting firms, auditors, or tax advisors
- Experience with Quick Books or similar accounting platforms, particularly in multi‑entity environments
- Experience migrating from Quick Books or smaller accounting platforms to more robust systems or ERP solutions as a company scales
- Experience working with small‑to‑medium sized companies ($40Mâ $100M in revenue)
- Experience coordinating with external accounting, tax, and audit firms
- Experience working in entrepreneur‑led or founder‑led companies
- Experience with budgeting and financial forecasting
- Background in growth‑stage, private, or operationally complex businesses
- Experience in service‑based or multi‑location operations strongly preferred
