Job Summary

Cul2vate is a faith-based nonprofit located in Middle Tennessee. Cul2vate’s mission is to feed both physical and spiritual hunger. Cul2vate feeds those who suffer from food insecurity by providing fresh produce grown locally on Cul2vate farms. Cul2vate feeds those with spiritual needs by employing and training them as Cul2vators to work the soil, grow, and distribute food.

The Accountant position is responsible for ensuring accurate, complete, and timely financial records for the organization. This role manages day-to-day accounting operations, monthly close activities, and the preparation of financial statements. The Accountant is expected to maintain a strong understanding of Cul2vate’s financial activity and performance, support leadership and the board with financial reporting and analysis and uphold strong internal controls.

This full-time, 30 – 40 hours per week Position reports to the Executive Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform all primary accounting functions for the organization including journal entries, invoice processing, disbursements, bank reconciliations, month‑end closing of the accounting records and preparation of the monthly financial reports using Quick Books Online.
  • Maintain capital expenditure records and calculate and record appropriate depreciation expense.
  • Administer and manage payroll in coordination with a third‑party payroll service.
  • Review monthly income statement and balance sheet activity to identify unusual trends or variances and provide clear explanations for significant items observed.
  • Design, maintain, and manage the chart of accounts and entity structure within the accounting system to best meet the organization’s operational and reporting needs.
  • Maintain strong internal controls over all cash receipts, cash disbursements and financial reporting; ensure related documents, policies, and procedures remain current.
  • Research and respond to financial questions and requests from key stakeholders, including management and board members.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the organization’s external audit and tax partners, providing requested information and responding to inquiries.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board to prepare, monitor, and maintain annual operating budget.
  • Maintain accounting records for the Cul2vate Farm Store and prepare and submit monthly sales tax reports and assist with inventory.
  • Qualifications Experience
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an accounting role
    • Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
    Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
    • A suitable combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Proficiency using Microsoft Office, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
    • Proficiency in Quick Books Online software preferred.
    • Basic knowledge of Toast point of sale preferred.
    • Strong attention to detail, organization, and analytical skills.
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with leadership, staff, and board members

    • The primary duties of the role can be performed remotely from home or other offsite location.
    • The position requires working onsite at Cul2vate office location approximately one to two days per week to address mail, cash receipts, cash disbursements, and to coordinate other transactions
    • Other meetings will be scheduled as needed
