Layout/Technical Engineer Internship

McHugh Concrete has been building Chicago's skyline for over 127+ years. We are an elite concrete subcontractor specializing on all applications of vertical, cast-in-place concrete structures - parking garages, high-rises, mid-rises, healthcare facilities, commercial buildings, foundations, etc. Additionally, we operate in both Nashville, TN and Indianapolis, IN.

MCC's internship program offers students an opportunity to engage with business leaders and participate in day-to-day operations. Students will gain invaluable experience in the construction industry as well as general knowledge of a company atmosphere and culture. The internship program is designed to give students the opportunity to gain insight into the working world and exposure to departments like field construction, project management, estimating, safety, detailer/modeling, design & structural & tech engineering.

Through our 12-week internship program, you'll gain hands‑on experience that strengthens your resume and lays the groundwork for your professional career. You'll be exposed to the full life cycle of a construction project by working alongside our estimating, field, and project management teams – while having the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on active projects. You'll also build strong connections across the organization through jobsite tours, company events, and other team-focused experiences.

The layout/technical engineer will be responsible for surveying, installation of concrete formwork, and other duties as assigned by the concrete superintendent. The job environment is predominantly outside and requires manual labor and ability to follow company safety policy.

• Problem solving with an aptitude in math (Third level qualification in a mathematical inclined field a plus).
• Completing tasks in MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, or Tekla Structures.
• Working on own initiative with others to complete tasks.
• Following the company safety management and organization standards.
• Completing assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and remain productive.
• Additional duties as needed.

• Students going into their sophomore, junior or senior year of marketing or related major.
