The Business Development Manager - Preconstruction & Takeoff Support is a contractor-facing role focused on strengthening early-stage project engagement through takeoff and estimating collaboration. This position works directly with electrical contractors to support takeoff workflows, improve bid quality, and better align material scope earlier in the project lifecycle.
The role supports sales growth by helping contractors solve real-world estimating and preconstruction challenges, enabling clearer scope development and more informed purchasing decisions. The position also serves as a collaborative resource for internal teams and strategic vendor partners-working together to support accurate takeoffs, strong project outcomes, and long-term customer relationships.
Responsibilities- Partner with contractors to support takeoff and estimating workflows as part of preconstruction collaboration.
- Assist with electrical takeoffs, including lighting and related scopes, to help improve estimating efficiency and accuracy.
- Work closely alongside outside and inside sales teams to identify opportunities where early takeoff engagement can support bid development, improve material alignment, and clarify scope.
- Collaborate with vendor partners, particularly lighting and solutions providers when appropriate to support accurate takeoffs, product alignment, and project execution.
- Lead working sessions, onboarding, and ongoing support related to takeoff and estimating collaboration tools.
- Apply construction and estimating experience to identify contractor pain points and translate them into practical, value-added solutions.
- Support bid strategy discussions by helping contractors better understand scope, quantities, and practical alternatives.
- Share best practices, lessons learned, and successful approaches across the organization to support consistent execution and continuous improvement.
- Gather feedback from contractor partners, vendor partners, and field teams to continuously refine approach and execution.
- Track engagement and opportunities influenced through preconstruction and takeoff support efforts.
- Collaborate with internal teams to align takeoff support efforts with branch and regional growth initiatives.
- Construction industry experience preferred, with exposure to estimating, takeoffs, or project planning. Experience in electrical construction or electrical distribution is a plus.
- Ability to communicate project scope and estimating concepts clearly in a contractor focused manner.
- Strong relationship building skills and comfort working directly with contractor customers and vendor partners.
- Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple active opportunities.
