Sr. Regional Environmental Engineer, AWS Environmental Team
Job role with the AWS Environmental Team focusing on environmental permitting and compliance for data centers and infrastructure globally. The team enables AWS growth while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
You will partner with AWS stakeholders to develop regional and site-specific development strategies for the construction and operation of AWS datacenters and infrastructure. You will lead environmental due diligence for site selection and acquisition, develop and execute regional and site-specific permitting strategies, manage environmental compliance during design and construction, and prepare for data center operations. This role requires regular engagement throughout the development lifecycle with multiple AWS stakeholders, including Real Estate, Legal, Risk, Water, Design, Public Policy, Construction, and Operational teams, as well as external stakeholders including regulatory agencies, consultants, and contractors.
A successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering multiple high-priority projects with tight timelines that require strong communication with partner teams, outside consultants and counsel, and regulatory agencies. The candidate must have a strong understanding of multi-media United States environmental permitting, remediation, and compliance requirements for large‑scale infrastructure, including experience with Clean Water Act (CWA) 404 and NPDES permitting.
The AWS Environmental team is looking for an experienced environmental professional to manage environmental requirements during datacenter and infrastructure development in the Americas.
Key job responsibilities- Assess environmental risks and requirements and develop mitigations and strategies to support data center siting and development strategies and site-specific project delivery.
- Lead technical aspects of environmental due diligence, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, regulatory and permitting evaluations, and natural, biological and cultural resource evaluations.
- Deliver environmental permits, approvals, and plans to enable on-time and compliant construction and operations for new data center locations and expansion of existing sites.
- Communicate environmental requirements, risks, and activities to internal and external project partners.
- Coordinate with partner teams including Design, Water, Legal, Risk, Power, and others to optimize site designs considering natural resource or operational constraints.
- Develop site development and permitting strategies that are environmentally responsible and sustainable while meeting project timelines.
- Lead regulatory agency interactions and negotiations in support of environmental permit acquisition and regional development strategies.
- Develop, manage and track metrics to evaluate project success.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $125,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $239,300/year in our highest geographic market.
