Join Stantec as a Roadway Civil Engineer and help shape safer, cleaner, and more resilient communities through innovative transportation design. Our Transportation group delivers comprehensive planning, project management, design, and engineering services for all phases of transportation projects, from urban roads to multi‑modal facilities.

In this role you will oversee roadway engineering projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and mentor junior staff while maintaining high standards of quality and client satisfaction. The position offers strong growth potential into a leadership role within our Tennessee Transportation group.

Your

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as project manager or technical specialist on roadway engineering projects, managing invoicing and financial performance of project budgets.
  • Serve as a technical specialist and consultant to other engineering disciplines on transportation‑related projects.
  • Prepare reports and develop planning documents.
  • Communicate with clients and stakeholders to understand client needs.
  • Identify and analyze principal design features and major design alternatives that satisfy project purpose and client requirements.
  • Produce detailed, high‑quality design plans, specifications, and estimates in accordance with applicable procedures and standards.
  • Peer‑review plans and provide quality‑control reviews of technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
  • Mentor junior staff in technical design elements and project document development.
  • Identify project pursuit opportunities, manage client relationships, develop new clients, and assist in preparing proposals.
Capabilities and Credentials
  • Professional Engineer registered in the State of Tennessee or the ability to obtain licensure within six months.
  • Proficient in designing transportation/civil engineering projects, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates for roadway construction.
  • Ability to lead one or more design teams through all phases of project production.
  • Experienced with roadway design plans, including geometric layout, drainage design, and earthwork computations.
  • Able to integrate bridges, traffic signals, Intelligent Transportation Systems, and roadway lighting into comprehensive plan sets.
  • Proficient in planning and report preparation.
  • Proficient in traffic control plan production and sequence of construction for roadway projects, including Transportation Management Plans, temporary signing, striping, barricades, and detour plans.
  • Experience with construction support services such as plan changes, RFI responses, and shop drawing reviews.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with team members virtually.
  • Experience planning and developing roadway projects in Micro Station, Geo Pak, and Open Roads is desired.
  • Thorough knowledge and interpretation of transportation industry standards and guidance (AASHTO, MUTCD, FHWA).
  • Experience with TDOT Roadway Design Guidelines and Project Delivery Network is desired.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer preferred.
  • Minimum seven years of experience in civil engineering, with preference for transportation experience.
