Responsibilities

Responsible for developing, directing and overseeing the administration of the Young Artists Program, Adult Community Education Program, Teacher Workshop Program, and grant funded community outreach programs.

  • Develop and evaluate program curriculum.
  • Prepare, develop and administer departmental budget, including equipment, supplies, and vendors.
  • Develop marketing, advertising and recruitment strategies for all community education programs. Manage content for community education web pages and coordinate production and distribution of course catalogs, brochures, etc. with the Communications Department.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Advancement to pursue grant opportunities, prepare grant applications, and report results to granting institutions for college community initiatives.
  • Interface effectively with the various community groups to pursue strategic partnerships and outreach opportunities.
  • Supervise and evaluate the quality of instruction and programming offered through all regular curricula and outreach activities.
  • Establish short- and long-term departmental goals in concert with the mission and long-range plan of Watkins College of Art and Belmont University.
  • Measure success of outlined and approved goals. Prepare reports and statistical data.
  • Hire and supervise the Coordinator of Community Education, Summer Programs Manager, teaching artists, work‑study employees, and Opportunity Now high school interns and experience work students.
  • Work with the Student Life office to generate community awareness, volunteer opportunities, arts access events and service‑learning components for Watkins College of Art and the O’More College of Architecture and Design students.
Qualifications
  • Record of successful budget management and previous experience with budget development.
  • Entrepreneurial, with experience in maximizing and creating revenue streams while minimizing expenses.
  • Knowledge of software and database programs including Access, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of web editing and social media programs (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) and experience uploading images and content.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud knowledge (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) a plus.
  • Experience in grant‑writing and grant management.
  • Ability to work under pressure of deadlines and bring projects to a timely conclusion.
  • Ability to work independently and with a minimum of direct supervision.
  • Service‑driven, able to promote the college while creating programs that support and inspire the creative careers of students, alumni and artists in the community.
  • Experience in database management.
  • Knowledge of marketing tactics appropriate to different constituencies.
  • Ability to develop and plan fundraising events and campaigns.
  • Organized, enthusiastic, self‑motivated, detail oriented and eager to strategically develop the department.

Required Education Bachelors of Arts, or equivalent, with experience in arts administration

Required Experience Experience working with various age groups in an educational setting, and experience in developing and implementing course offerings for a variety of communities and constituencies. Proven administrative and management experience coupled with the ability to work effectively with artists and community groups.
