Have a passion for public speaking or writing? The Lipscomb University Center for Speaking and Writing (CSW) is looking to hire peer writing and speaking consultants.
The goal of the new speaking center (as part of the CSW) is to assist students, faculty, and staff at Lipscomb University with public speeches and presentations at all levels. Speaking consultants will offer feedback to assist with strengthening the client’s delivery, message, and overall confidence through advice and encouragement given throughout the session. Must be a current Lipscomb University student, and may be federal work study eligible.
Consultants will be expected to assist with:
- Preparation outlines, delivery outlines and speaking notes
- Persuasive Presentations
- Visual delivery (eye contact, posture, gestures, use of notes)
- Managing speaking anxiety
Ideal candidates will:
- Have passed Intro to Communication (CO1003) or University Writing (EN1313) with a ‘B’ or better
- Enjoy working with others
- Maintain professionalism with peers
After successful training, staff members will work in the center 3-10 hours per week performing the following tasks:
- Tutoring university students one‑on‑one
- Teaching workshops (including class visits)
- Attending mandatory staff meetings. Students will also be required to attend staff development before each semester begins.
