Position: 2026-2027 Visual Arts Teacher

Summary

Due to enrollment growth and a strong trend of student enrollment in the visual arts, Franklin Road Academy is adding a full‑time growth position in the Arts Department. Franklin Road Academy (FRA) seeks an experienced and passionate Visual Arts Educator to teach middle school and select upper school courses. The ideal candidate will inspire creativity, nurture artistic growth, and actively contribute to our vibrant learning community.

This educator should demonstrate a commitment to professional development, student‑centered instruction, and collaboration within the Fine Arts Department.

Candidates must have experience working with a broad range of media, including digital art, and demonstrate proficiency with tools such as Procreate. Experience teaching both middle school and upper school students is preferred.

All faculty are expected to support FRA's mission to provide a challenging educational experience in an inclusive Christian community, with an unwavering commitment to develop leaders of integrity and purpose. Community engagement is essential to life at FRA; faculty regularly attend school events and serve as advisors to small student groups.

Essential Functions

The tasks, duties, and responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach visual arts courses for grades 5-8, aligned with the school's curriculum
  • Develop and teach a semester‑long Upper School Digital Art course (including use of Procreate)
  • Teach a semester‑long Upper School Art I (Drawing) course
  • Design engaging curriculum and assessments to meet diverse student needs
  • Foster a safe, supportive classroom environment where students feel encouraged to take creative risks
  • Track attendance, assess student work, provide meaningful feedback, and communicate effectively with students and families
  • Meet regularly with department colleagues to ensure an aligned curriculum, shared expectations, and best instructional practices
  • Maintain office hours and fulfill other faculty responsibilities
  • Collaborate with visual arts colleagues to plan and present the annual Pre‑K through Alumni Art Show
  • Support additional departmental events such as Evening with the Arts
  • Seek and promote opportunities for students to participate in external art exhibitions and competitions
  • Serve as an advisor to a group of 8-10 students during the advisory class time
  • Participate in Interim Week with their Advisory grade level
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong artistic knowledge, instructional expertise, and leadership skills, and will possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Art, Art Education, or a related field
  • Minimum of five years of teaching experience; independent school experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of visual art techniques, processes, history, and artists
  • Understanding of National Standards for Visual Arts Education
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to respond thoughtfully to the diverse needs of students, families, and colleagues
