Overview

The Training Officer 2 plays an essential role in delivering high‑quality learning experiences that support the development, performance, and engagement of employees across the Department. This position is responsible for facilitating training sessions for employees at all levels, ensuring the timely completion of mandatory learning requirements, and supporting the ongoing growth of the agency’s workforce. Reporting directly to the Director of Learning and Development, the Training Officer 2 will deliver both in‑person and virtual training, develop and revise instructional materials, and evaluate training effectiveness to ensure continuous improvement.

Collaboration is central to this role; the officer must be a strong team player who works closely with colleagues to plan, coordinate, and deliver training initiatives, maintaining a unified and supportive approach to meeting agency goals.

The role may require travel to conferences and events to support or present sessions and strengthen agency‑wide learning engagement. This position requires work onsite in the Nashville office, a minimum of two days per week. Occasional statewide travel may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate agency‑specific training through various delivery methods to enhance employee and vendor development while ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. Deliver training to internal and external customers, develop or modify training materials based on objectives and needs, apply adult learning principles, conduct training needs analyses, and develop evaluation tools to ensure training effectiveness. Facilitate mandated training and training for trainers to expand learning and development scope.
  • Coordinate and organize events such as conferences, seminars, and workshops to enhance learning and development, including scheduling and reserving necessary sites and equipment.
  • Prepare corrective action plans and provide information to management to improve agency efficiency and program quality. Review and evaluate training programs, methods, materials, and reports for relevance and clarity. Select appropriate consultants or vendors and observe their performance to ensure compliance with contracts and policies. Evaluate training goals, resources, participants, and subject matter to determine course length and method. Recommend future use of vendors and review customer surveys to assess effectiveness and make recommendations.
  • Communicate agency rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and documentation to external customers to facilitate understanding, enhance communications, and ensure compliance; present agency‑specific information to community partners and at other speaking engagements to inform the public of available services; maintain an open dialogue with external customers to ensure effective and efficient communication.
  • Enter necessary data into agency‑specific tracking software and utilize various office productivity tools to achieve agency goals. Obtain information from various sources to assess training needs and research relevant learning opportunities for agency‑specific employee development.
  • Assist management in selecting cost‑effective and practical training options and may oversee training inventory and purchasing to ensure the availability of appropriate equipment, supplies, and materials for training needs.
