The Interventionist provides direct supervision of and instruction to elementary school students. Interventionists primarily deliver instruction to students in small groups in reading and math, implementing the curricula and programs of the school. Additionally, some instruction may be delivered to a whole class (up to 12 students). Interventionists are responsible for assessing student performance, making data‑informed decisions about instruction, and contributing to/writing student goals and reports.
Interventionists work closely with fellow interventionists and teachers and the school administration to provide instruction and support to all students of the Academy.
Interventionists are hired to one‑year terms for their first year of employment at Roberts Academy. After the first year, those who continue employment move to ongoing positions rather than term‑based appointments.
About the Work UnitRoberts Academy is an elementary school for students with dyslexia. In the 2026‑2027 school year, the Academy will enroll students in 3rd–5th grade. The instructional approach follows the principles of intensive intervention for students with dyslexia who have the most persistent academic needs. Students at Roberts Academy receive individualized, evidence‑based instruction that leverages their unique strengths and interests while targeting their greatest areas of need.
While specifically a school for students with dyslexia, Roberts Academy offers a comprehensive program and learning environment that provides students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to transition to a variety of school settings.
- Maintain a clean, safe, orderly learning environment that supports children’s physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development.
- Conscientiously supervise children.
- Implement the school’s programs and curricula.
- Attend and contribute to faculty meetings.
- Establish and implement behavior management in accordance with a positive behavior support approach.
- Regularly assess student performance and complete educational assessments using appropriate tools.
- Use approved assessment tools to collect information regarding current levels of performance for all children in the classroom.
- Use data from ongoing collection to inform instruction for individual children and classroom planning, and make necessary changes when appropriate.
- Consistently meet requirements for timely filling of documentation as required.
- Consult with the administrative team as needed to provide input on curriculum and individual child supports.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers to plan and implement daily curriculum and individual education plans.
- Collect data on progress toward individual goals developed by the educational team.
- Coordinate and implement specific instructional strategies with classroom team members.
- Collaborate with students’ extended educational teams to plan assessments, data collection needs, and develop educational plans.
- Contribute to transition plans.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and provide communication from school to home (daily notes, monthly newsletters, school‑wide updates).
- Interact with parents in a friendly, professional manner.
- Conduct conferences with parents, communicating goals, current levels of performance, and progress toward goals.
- Respond to professional emails promptly (typically within one school day).
- Seek outside resources (RA admin, faculty, consult therapists) as necessary to meet classroom and student needs.
- Facilitate positive experiences for student workers, student volunteers, and practicum students at all levels.
- Provide students with opportunities to teach and/or complete necessary assignments within the classroom setting under supervision.
- Model desired practices for interactions with children (group or individual), preparation of the environment, and interactions with families.
