Overview

Assistant/Associate Professor of Histology and Anatomy at Belmont University. We are now accepting applications for a qualified Assistant/Associate Professor of Histology and Anatomy at Belmont University.

Responsibilities
  • Teach across the first two years of the curriculum, integrating foundational science content within organ-system–based courses.
  • Contribute to active and team-based learning, anatomy dissection, histology laboratories, and clinical correlations.
  • Engage in scholarly activity and service consistent with the expectations of a developing medical college and Belmont University’s academic environment.
  • Develop, implement, and assess formative and summative student evaluations that promote mastery and self-directed learning.
  • Supervise anatomy dissection laboratories and contribute to the management and maintenance of the anatomy and histology teaching facilities.
Scholarship and Research
  • Maintain a program of scholarly activity, which may include educational research, applied or translational science, anatomical education, or pedagogical innovation.
  • Engage students in scholarly pursuits that align with the College of Medicine’s mission and contribute to the academic reputation of the department and college.
  • Seek internal and external funding to support research or educational initiatives when appropriate.
Service and Leadership
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university committees, including curriculum and assessment subcommittees.
  • Serve as an academic advisor and mentor to medical students, promoting personal and professional development.
  • Contribute to community engagement and professional service consistent with the mission of Belmont University.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to support a respectful, inclusive, and faith-informed learning environment that upholds the values of compassion, integrity, and excellence.
Required Qualifications
  • Terminal degree (PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent) in Anatomy, Histology, Biomedical Sciences, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in human gross anatomy and histology.
  • Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, or medical school level.
  • Commitment to innovative pedagogy and integration of foundational and clinical sciences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in medical education within an LCME-accredited institution.
  • Record of scholarly productivity (publications, presentations, or educational innovation).
  • Familiarity with virtual anatomy tools, histology digital platforms, and active learning methodologies.
Appointment & Evaluation

This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-eligible faculty appointment in the Department of Foundational and Clinical Sciences. Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Tenure-track faculty are evaluated on performance in teaching, scholarship, and service consistent with Belmont University Faculty Handbook and College of Medicine criteria for academic advancement.

Required Education Terminal degree (PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent) in Anatomy, Histology, Biomedical Sciences, or a closely related field.

Required Experience Demonstrated expertise in human gross anatomy and histology. Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, or medical school level.

The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
