The Dean will serve as the academic and organizational leader, reporting directly to the Provost & Executive Vice President for Academic Excellence.
ResponsibilitiesThe Dean will
- Ensure excellence in legal instruction and deepen student learning and character-forming whole‑person development.
- Champion scholarship, maintain collegiality, and implement action plans to sustain high bar passage achievements.
- Communicate the mission, vision, and values of Belmont University and the College of Law to students, alumni, donors, and partners.
- Strategically utilize resources, manage the budget, and serve as a prolific fund‑raiser supporting the College’s mission and initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships with alumni, corporate sponsors, donors, professional community, and university marketing and communications.
- Support interdisciplinary initiatives and collaborate with other deans, administrators, and faculty across Belmont University.
- Recruit, hire, and evaluate exceptional faculty members in accordance with university policies and college practices.
- Lead the programmatic accreditation processes and ensure compliance with accrediting bodies.
- Facilitate the continuous assessment and improvement of academic initiatives, curricular, and administrative work.
- Effectively manage the financial resources and budget of the college, ensuring responsible fiscal management.
- Oversee the student educational experience, including learning, support, retention, and success.
- Provide leadership and supervision for associate deans, faculty, and staff; guide organizational, curricular, and administrative work.
- Participation in university‑wide structures, committees, and initiatives as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned and directed by the President or Provost & Executive Vice‑President for Academic Excellence.
Key Responsibilities of the Dean
- Serve as the chief academic and administrative officer for the College.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, steward, and sustain relationships with external constituencies and partners.
- Meet fundraising and engagement objectives in partnership with the Office of Development.
- Work collaboratively with university marketing and communications and the Office of the President around strategic branding opportunities.
- Identify and foster opportunities for collaboration across the various Colleges within Belmont University.
- Provide leadership and supervision for COL associate deans, faculty, and staff.
- Oversee the student educational experience, including student learning, formation, support, retention, and success.
- Facilitate and advance the continuing assessment and improvement of all academic initiatives.
- Lead the programmatic accreditation processes within the college, ensuring compliance.
- Commit to continual improvement of curricula with attentiveness to ABA and other accreditation standards.
- Collaborate with other deans, university administrators, and faculty members to advance interdisciplinary initiatives and shared resources.
- Participate in university‑wide structures, committees, and initiatives as necessary.
- Effectively manage the financial resources and budget of the college.
- Recruit, hire, and evaluate exceptional faculty members.
- Promote a culture of excellence in teaching, research and scholarship, student support, and service.
