Primary Responsibilities
  • Open and close the gallery spaces, including setting up signage, ticketing, and queuing prior to gallery opening. Liaise with university security as needed.
  • Supervise gallery docents and provide support for tours. Communicate promptly with the University Archivist and Learning Spaces Coordinator regarding tours, docents, collections, and security issues.
  • Welcome visitors, inform them of gallery policies, answer questions, provide way‑finding instructions, and encourage engagement. Sell tickets to gallery spaces.
  • Manage gallery events as directed.
  • Assist with front‑line scheduling in partnership with the Learning Spaces Coordinator.
  • Assist the Gallery Curator with object care, including occasional cleaning and exhibit set‑up.
  • Participate in special projects such as research or inventory tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Good customer service and professional communication skills/phone etiquette.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to assist others.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other internet‑based programs.
  • Reliable, self‑directed, trustworthy, and responsible.
  • Observant and constantly aware of surroundings.
  • Strong judgment and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced environment and ability to respond to high‑pressure situations.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Availability for Saturdays, Sundays, and some holidays. Flexibility for additional gallery events throughout the week is desirable.
Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree (required).
Preferred Experience
  • Previous managerial, customer service, public speaking, or front‑desk experience.

The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
