Job SummaryThe Lighting Technician Apprentice will assist Lighting Technicians with the preparation, assembly, operation, and maintenance of lighting equipment. This Apprenticeship is designed for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in the live events industry, learning about lighting systems, and working closely with experienced technicians. The role involves supporting the setup and teardown of lighting systems, troubleshooting basic technical issues, and assisting with warehouse needs.
Responsibilities- Understands, abides by, and instills the philosophy, policies, and procedures of Bandit Lites.
- Assist in the preparation, assembly, and maintenance of lighting equipment for live events and tours.
- Gain a strong working knowledge of touring equipment, including lights, rigging, control systems, and related accessories.
- Learn how to read and follow equipment lists and lighting system diagrams to help with setup and teardown of lighting systems.
- Observe and assist with diagnosing basic technical aspects of equipment and systems, including making simple repairs under guidance.
- Help with equipment preparation, testing, and packing before and after transport to events, ensuring all gear is handled and stored properly.
- Help with warehouse prep, including equipment maintenance, inventory control, and de-prep for future events.
- Support other departments and crew members as needed, learning best practices for collaborative work and crew management.
- Current student or recent graduate in a related field such as Theater Production, Electrical Engineering, or Live Event Technology.
- A keen interest in learning about the live events industry, lighting systems, and technical aspects of production.
- Basic knowledge of touring lighting equipment, including moving lights (e.g., Vari-Lite, Robe, Clay Paky), static lights, LEDs, follow spots, and other specialized concert lighting gear. Familiarity with industry-standard control systems (e.g., MA Lighting, Avolites, ETC).
- Basic understanding of rigging equipment, including truss systems, hoists, cables, and safety systems. Able to comply with safety standards when working with lighting rigs and high-voltage equipment at heights.
- Basic ability to read and interpret CAD drawings, lighting plots, rigging plans, and build specifications for concert and event lighting setups.
- Must be able to climb and lift within regulations and standards, including working with heights and heavy equipment.
- Basic tool knowledge, including the use of crescent wrenches, screwdrivers, allen keys, and other necessary tools for setup, maintenance, and teardown of lighting systems.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs and to stand/walk for extended periods.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills, possess strong work ethic; both reliable and punctual, the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively, Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and emergencies, excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task, physical stamina and ability to perform role requirements.
QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or equivalent required; currently pursuing or recently completed coursework in a related field is preferred.
Experience: No prior experience required, but any relevant coursework, volunteering, or previous internships in event production, theater, or technical roles are a plus.
