L.I. Smith & Associates is seeking a driven, detail-oriented CAD Technician (Construction Focus) to play a key role in delivering impactful civil infrastructure projects. From pre-construction through closeout, you’ll produce construction-ready Civil 3D drawings, develop grading and utility plans, build 3D grading models in TBC , generate as-builts, and prepare survey stakeout files that guide field crews with precision.
Compensation:
$18 – $28 per hour
What You’ll Do:
- Prepare and revise construction-ready civil drawings, details, and plan sets
- Develop grading, utility, erosion control, and site layout plans using Civil 3D
- Produce field layout exhibits and support construction staking documentation
- Prepare TBC models, as-builts, survey stakeout files for field crews, and perform field data review and QA/QC
- Assist with shop drawing reviews and respond to contractor RFIs
- Coordinate closely with project managers, field crews, and contractors
- Ensure drawings meet local, state, and regulatory standards
- Maintain organized, accurate drawing files throughout the construction lifecycle
- Support projects from pre-construction through closeout
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong working knowledge of Civil 3D
- Familiarity with site grading, utilities, and construction sequencing
- Experience preparing TBC models, as-builts, and stakeout files for construction crews
- Knowledge of field data review processes and QA/QC procedures
- Detail-oriented and deadline-driven
- Ability to communicate clearly with engineers, contractors, and field personnel
- Comfortable working independently while supporting a collaborative team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Education:
- Associate or technical degree in drafting/design
- 3–5 years of drafting experience (civil/construction preferred)
- Experience supporting land development or infrastructure construction projects
- Experience working with state or local agencies is a plus
