The North American Food Safety Operations Launch Team ensures that all Amazon Distribution and Retail/Grocery Fulfillment sites meet safety criteria, regulatory requirements and brand standards for new site launches and existing site renovations. They collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders on design, permitting, launch, expansion and program development. Significant experience managing food safety and regulatory programs at the enterprise level in the retail food environment is a must.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a highly visible space and be part of a fast‑growing company – the position requires up to 25% travel.
- Develop, maintain, and audit Retail Food Code Design standards for new and existing businesses
- Risk assess operational processes within the launch program to determine required food safety and compliance interventions, auditing mechanisms, and regulatory impacts of business models
- Partner cross‑functionally (internally and externally) to launch new food sites on time and that meet food safety and compliance requirements
- Work with Legal to provide food safety and compliance direction to Operations, to meet standards and requirements
- Invent mechanisms and tools that support Launch processes to comply with food safety requirements
- Consult on policies, standards, and SOPs for food business processes and procedures. Update policies/standards/procedures to close operational food safety gaps
- Leverage technology to manage and continuously improve compliance processes. Drive food safety and compliance by using data to identify compliance trends
- Write and edit business review documents to update business stakeholders about the Food Safety and Compliance program and initiatives and performance of their respective business
- Experience in program or project management
- Experience working proactively and independently, meeting deadlines, and delivering on projects and tasks
- Experience working effectively across cross‑functional teams and partnering well with people at all levels within an organization
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a related field
- 3 years of experience managing Food Safety and Quality in a large‑scale retail or manufacturing environment (multi‑store/multi‑plant)
- Deep, demonstrated knowledge of the Retail Food Code and regulations governing grocery retail across local, state, and federal food regulations and experience interacting with local regulators
- Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, and compelling narratives
- Experience with design reviews, food safety auditing, and/or inspection
- Experience in online retail
- Experience delivering against a large organization’s long‑term strategy and goals
- Master’s degree in Food Science or related field
- Participation in Food Industry Councils and Working Groups

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $66,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $142,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
