We are looking for a Purchasing Manager to support a growing Procurement team. This role is vital in ensuring the efficient acquisition of pet medications, supplies, and related products, contributing to Allivet's mission of providing affordable pet care. The role will use strong negotiation and communication skills, a keen understanding of inventory management principles, and a passion for the pet industry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Responsible for the procurement of pharmaceuticals, pet supplies, and other inventory, ensuring timely delivery and optimal pricing.
- Analyze purchase requisitions, evaluate supplier proposals, and negotiate pricing and contract terms.
- Place and track purchase orders, ensuring accuracy in product specifications, quantities, and delivery schedules.
- Monitor inventory levels, identify potential shortages, and proactively address supply chain disruptions.
- Collaborate with the Inventory Management team to optimize stock levels, minimize holding costs, and prevent stockouts.
- Analyze purchasing data to identify trends, evaluate cost-saving opportunities, and track key performance indicators.
- Prepare reports on purchasing activities, inventory levels, and supplier performance.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of efficient purchasing processes and systems.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and quality standards for pet medications and supplies, including FDA and DEA guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to address any product quality issues and implement corrective actions with suppliers.
- Forge and maintain robust, collaborative relationships with key suppliers in the animal industry.
- Negotiate favorable terms, pricing, and promotional programs that meet the demands of our market and ensure product availability.
- Collaborate with suppliers on forecasting demand, managing lead times, and ensuring product availability.
- Evaluate supplier performance based on factors such as product efficacy, reliability, and delivery timelines; address concerns and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Stay informed about new product offerings, industry trends, and relevant industry regulations and changes thereof.
Experience:
5+ years of experience in purchasing or inventory management, preferably within the pet industry or in a related field (e.g., pharmaceuticals, consumer goods).
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and inventory management software.
- Knowledge of purchasing best practices, supply chain management principles, and relevant industry regulations.
- Strong sales, negotiation, and deal‑closing abilities.
- Experience in scaling up enterprises and navigating high‑growth environments.
