Position Overview: The Firmware Engineer – HSIO Cables is located on‑site in Nashua רוצים. The role is part of the software team that develops firmware, manufacturing applications, and various specialty software tools for hardware engineering teams. Focus is on firmware for active high‑speed IO cables and thermal loopback products, including active copper, passive copper and active optical.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, debug and support firmware for active high‑speed IO cables and thermal loopbacks, working with customers and manufacturers of communication chips.
  • Contribute to product teams that turn high‑speed IO cable concepts into production‑ready products handed off to manufacturing.
  • Provide engineering support to team members fine‑tuning communication settings by opening back doors or interfaces as needed.
  • Collaborate with developers responsible for manufacturing applications.
  • Support firmware in product qualification, testing, and manufacturing.
  • Mentor other team members as needed.
  • Ensure firmware is well documented and maintainable by others.
  • Visit Amphenol manufacturing plants during product ramp‑up as required.
Qualifications
  • BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering and 5+ years of industry experience with firmware development on bare‑metal or equivalent.
  • Hands‑on experience with ARM Cortex‑M0/M0+ and embedded solutions from sub‑32KB of Flash, including GPIO pins, ADCs, and interrupts.
  • Good understanding of I2C, including debugging and supporting a bit‑banged bus.
  • Experience developing page‑based host interfaces for I2C slaves, such as those used by Small Form Factor devices or CMIS.
  • Knowledge of SWD‑style debugging.
  • Comfortable working in a team sharing code and participating in peer reviews.
  • Hands‑on experience with source‑code control systems, with regular check‑ins.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong English reading and writing ability.
  • Self‑starter, able to work efficiently without all details or requirements fully defined.
  • Dynamic and adaptable personality, capable of thinking outside the box.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in multi‑disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Accustomed to global, hybrid environments using Teams and Zoom.
  • Experience with I2C and SPI buses.
  • Experience with a logic analyzer.
  • Understanding of signal‑integrity theory and practice.
  • Familiarity with low‑level hardware interfaces and reading chip datasheets.
  • Experience with high‑speed communication equipment, including SFF standards.
  • Experience with digital signal processors.
  • Experience with prototype hardware and lab settings.
  • Ability to improvise testing setups with breadboards and jumpers.
  • Hands‑on experience with Keil.
  • Experience with C8051 8‑bit MCUs.
  • Comfortable with C++, preferably using Visual Studio.
  • Experience using SVN.
  • Familiarity with Linux and traditional command line interfaces.
