Position: OPS COURIER - 64853111

A part‑time hourly position (24‑29 hrs per week) serving as a courier with the Florida Department of Health (DOH) in Collier County. This role is high trust, requires independent and team work, involves courier services, mail management, operation of motor vehicles, and various related duties. The incumbent may be at risk of exposure to blood‑borne or airborne pathogens.

Responsibilities
  • Delivers, picks up, sorts, processes, and distributes mail, material and other items at the main health department facility, satellite offices and other locations as needed, adjusting pickup and delivery schedule for unexpected requests to maintain efficiency.
  • Loads and unloads materials or equipment.
  • During events or simulated exercises, picks up items at storage facilities and delivers and distributes supplies to requested locations.
  • Assists the Property Custodian with property management, locating missing items and transporting surplus or disposed property as required.
  • Makes the daily bank deposit, returns bags and receipts to the Accounts Receivable Clerk, and picks up and signs for registered, certified, or other correspondence requiring special handling.
  • Ensures administration vehicles are maintained and serviced per County Fleet guidance, including cleaning, oil changes, and other preventive maintenance, and reports vehicle issues to supervisor or County Fleet as needed.
  • Operates office equipment: postal machines, fax machines, telephone.
  • Performs computer data entry as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of customer and personal service principles and processes, including assessment, quality standards, and customer satisfaction evaluation.
  • Ability to lift and move boxes up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of motor vehicles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work with multiple numbers and codes.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Dependability and reliability in fulfilling obligations.
  • Skilled in active listening, time management, and service orientation.
Qualifications
  • A valid State of Florida driver’s license.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift and move boxes up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work freely and outside in high heat and humid conditions.
  • Capability to operate government vehicles (sedans, large vans, box trucks) for courier/delivery services.
  • Availability to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in emergencies.
  • Availability for emergency duty (e.g., Red Cross shelters, disaster response).
