Operations Manager, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to perform leadership functions in coordinating and executing daily operations of the City Dock. Employees in this position ensure proper collection, documentation and processing of fees for retail and fuel sales; performing basic maintenance tasks and promoting best safety practices. This position will report directly to the Dockmaster.
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Executing activities for operation, maintenance, and security of the City Dock; prepares and maintains various records or reports concerning marina activities such as revenues and fees collected, maintenance and repair activities, materials/supplies purchased, transient registrations, etc.
Serves as the leader of marina operations in the absence of the Dockmaster and Marina Manager.
Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
Oversees events and programs at the City Dock, under the direction of the Dockmaster and Marina Manager.
Assigns mooring spaces in City anchorage; maintains/updates records; collects and processes applicable fees; and performs corrective actions for delinquent accounts.
Ensures third-party personnel hired by tenants and engaged in providing security, care and safety of boats, docks, and facilities are following procedures and safety standards.
Assists with waterfront operations related to the operations of the City Dock; responds to environmental issues at the City Dock; ensures compliance with city regulations regarding charter boats utilizing the City Dock; performs pre & post hurricane duties; and responds to/coordinates wildlife rescues as needed.
Provides overall assistance to the general public regarding marine information, marina rules and regulations, docking fees, transient docking, and safe boating practices.
Cooperates with authorities in responding to hurricane alerts; implements existing plan to include pre-hurricane preparations and post-hurricane clean-up operations.
Inspects boats, docks, piers, parks, and adjacent facilities for adherence to established safety regulations, and for the purpose of preventing accidents or injury to personnel and patrons.
Inspects mooring field hardware and physical condition of vessels in anchorage, maintaining surveillance of boats while owners are away and during hurricanes or gales.
Assists with the maintenance and monitoring of fuel pumps, live bait wells, and fuel levels in main fueling tanks.
Assists with the operations of the marina sales office; ensures accurate accounting and balancing of all monies processed; prepares and submits bank deposits.
Operates City boat as needed, and VHF radio equipment in communicating and responding to public docking/boating needs.
Assists in responding to hazardous materials spills; ensures containment according to established regulations.
Responsible for ensuring appropriateness and function of all signage and lighting for City Dock.
Performs other related duties as required.

- High school diploma or GED
- 2 years experience demonstrating extensive knowledge of safe boating practices and procedures, and experience in operational maintenance/management of a marina/docking facility or similar water related business; supplemental training and/or license through the U.S. Coast Guard is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills…
