Community Services Department Internship Program Parks and Recreation Internship

The City of Naples Community Services Department’s internship program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to integrate theoretical concepts in the field of parks, recreation, and leisure studies with practical applications, all while under the supervision of dedicated parks and recreation professionals. Our internship program offers a multifaceted experience that allows the student to explore various components of parks and recreation and explore their greatest areas of interest.

To provide residents and visitors of Naples with the highest level of customer care and to serve as exceptional stewards of beaches, facilities, parks, programs and services.

The City of Naples Community Services Department will enrich the lives of residents and meet their high standards by consistently providing a beautiful city with exceptional parks, programs and services.

The Community Services Department consists of four major Divisions:
  • Administration
  • Facilities Maintenance
  • Parks and Parkways
  • Recreation
Administration Responsibilities

Administration is responsible for the management and oversight of all the Department Divisions, personnel management, community relations, long and short‑term planning, providing staff support to the Community Services Advisory Board, coordinating City sponsored special events, processing special event applications from the non‑profit and private sectors, managing and providing oversight for capital projects and managing various enterprise funds and special revenue funds including:

  • Arthur L. Allen Tennis Center Fund (Enterprise) + (Recreation)
  • Beach Fund – Lowdermilk Park
  • Beach Fund – Maintenance
  • Beach Fund – Naples Pier
  • Community Redevelopment Agency – Maintenance
  • Naples City Dock Marina Fund (Enterprise) + (Recreation)
  • Naples Landing Fund
Facilities Maintenance Responsibilities

Facilities Maintenance is responsible for the repair and maintenance of City owned facilities (other than Utilities Facilities) including the Naples Pier, the City parking garages and managing facilities capital projects.

Parks and Parkways Responsibilities

Parks and Parkways are responsible for the care and maintenance of the City’s public beach accesses, City’s landscaped rights‑of‑ways, landscaped medians, linear and mini parks, (21,000 City owned trees), developing the City’s Urban Forestry Plan, managing contractor services and managing multiple capital projects.

Recreation Responsibilities

Recreation is responsible for developing, delivering and managing a broad range of recreation programs, art/entertainment programs, athletic programs, special events and summer camps. The Division is also responsible for managing the following recreation facilities:

  • Interested students should first contact their internship coordinator/department leadership at their college/university and follow the practices and procedures of their school.
  • With permission from their recreation program/school, candidates should complete this application in its entirety and submit a cover letter explaining their interests, experience, talents, and other information which qualifies them for an internship position. Also, candidates should provide a resume, certifications and two personal references.
