Overview

Provides administrative support to the Environmental Public Health Section of the Florida Department of Health in Collier County. Responsibilities include collecting water samples at beaches and freshwater bodies, posting and removing advisory signs, and performing clerical tasks such as updating databases and the website, answering phone calls and emails from the public, assisting walk-in clients, scanning and filing documents. Additional duties include file management, supporting the program supervisor, conducting outreach activities, and delivering public education on environmental health topics.

This position will report to the Environmental Administrator.

This is a temporary position that is anticipated to last approximately one year.

Responsibilities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of general office procedures

  • Skill in typing and the use of word processing equipment
  • Ability to handle telephone calls in a courteous and effective manner

  • Ability to review data for accuracy and completeness
Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Valid Florida driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds and must be able to move freely around inspection sites, including swimming pool decks, and work outside in high heat and humid conditions.
  • Must be able to attend out of town meetings and training sessions for several days on occasion.
  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours in the event of a disaster or as needed. EMERGENCY DUTY:
    Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat thereof, man-made or natural.
Preferred
  • A High School diploma or an equivalent GED.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an U.S. accredited college or university with a minimum of 30 credit hours in a related science field is preferred, but not required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred but not required.
  • Experience making field observations and taking measurements
  • Experience working independently with minimal supervision and managing a work-related deadline.
  • Experience providing education to a customer.
