The Physical Therapist primary functions are to assess, reassess, develop, implement and evaluate a plan of care that is safe, effective and incorporates patient input, and follows the Physical Therapist standard of care. Employee must follow State licensure Act and National Professional Organization Practice Guidelines. Leadership, delegation, interdisciplinary team work, information management, performance improvement, customer service and time management are essential basic competencies.
Needs general supervision.
- Perform initial therapy evaluations and re-evaluations using appropriate techniques for patient age, culture and admitting diagnosis within the first 60 minutes of assessment time.
- Make an accurate assessment of patient strengths, weaknesses and pain.
- Develop a well‑defined plan of care and goals that include patient input and awareness of educational and cultural needs.
- Select, monitor and modify appropriate equipment, procedure and diagnostic testing methods.
- Form accurate clinical impressions when one or more impairments or diagnoses exist simultaneously.
- Ensure therapeutic goals are consistently measurable, objective and reflective of the plan, and are modified and updated in a timely manner.
- Develop or actively pursue skills in specialty areas (e.g., aquatics, lymphedema, manual therapy, neurology, orthopedics, sports, wound care, vestibular, sensory integration, FCEs, etc.) or in areas beyond primary responsibility.
- Provide effective treatment to patients of different age groups and cultures, incorporating growth and development knowledge.
- Provide treatment services appropriate to patient age group, culture and disability; refer to resources as appropriate.
- Demonstrate competency in all basic clinical procedures and equipment for common disorders.
- Follow ethical practices according to the Florida Board of Examiners and NCH Health Care System guidelines.
- Delegate patient care to team members within scope of practice.
- Provide formal and informal guidance, support and teaching to internal and external customers.
- Communicate objective information about patient deficits or impairments to the healthcare team in a professional and timely manner.
- Identify educational needs and use formal and informal education strategies to address them.
- Educate nursing staff and other staff members regarding limitations, needs and precautions when covering inpatients.
- Maintain timely, complete and accurate written documentation as defined in policies and procedures.
- Locate information in the medical record and perform a complete chart audit.
- Ensure medical record entries are legible and complete patient care information for follow‑up.
- Maintain a neat, organized, and clean therapeutic environment.
- Manage therapy and evaluation materials and supply inventory.
- Order new material to meet patient population needs.
- Accurately schedule and re‑schedule patients, as applicable.
- Ensure patient schedules are up to date and accurate.
- Communicate schedule changes to appropriate staff and community.
- Provide accurate, timely billing and re‑authorization information; complete follow‑up calls for no‑shows.
- Complete FIMs accurately and timely as applicable.
- Maintain CEU requirements to uphold licensure and specialty certifications.
- Attend courses or complete self‑study to stay current with issues related to primary population served.
- Stay current with AIDS education, medical‑error education, and state laws.
- Research and address patient knowledge deficits for uncommon presentations.
- Minimum of Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy.
- No experience required.
- Licensed as a Physical Therapist in the State of Florida.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Intermediate computer knowledge:
Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
