Job Description:

The Dermatology Medical Assistant will assist the provider(s) with patient care, creating an atmosphere that reflects high standards and quality care. They will help extend the physician’s relationship with patients by ensuring excellent service and confidentiality.

To succeed, the assistant must be cheerful, friendly, polite, tactful, and professional. Effective communication with providers and patients, along with respect for patient confidentiality, is essential. The role requires evaluating and responding to patient needs and relaying instructions from the doctor. A team-oriented attitude and respect for co-workers are also crucial.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with patient care, including escorting patients, preparing for exams, and reviewing health history forms.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and supplies.
  • Manage patient flow, including rooming patients, taking histories, and assisting during exams and procedures.
  • Prepare procedure trays and instruments, and assist with procedures as directed.
  • Handle specimen collection, documentation, and follow-up per protocol.
  • Accurately document visits and communicate with patients via office and phone.
  • Schedule appointments and manage prescriptions according to protocol.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen standards and maintain medical equipment.
  • Manage supplies, inventory, and maintain infection control policies.
  • Document all medical instructions and communicate effectively via email and EMR.
  • Be knowledgeable about dermatologic products, procedures, CPT coding, and office policies.
  • Obtain preauthorization for procedures or medications as needed.
  • Coordinate with specialists and manage sample supplies.
  • Perform housekeeping duties as directed and other tasks assigned by supervisors.
