Job SummaryThe Medical Assistant/X-Ray is responsible for providing basic care to clinic patients following established standards and practices.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Triage patients by injury or illness.
- Fulfill patient care responsibilities as assigned, including checking schedules and organizing patient flow.
- Escort patients to exam/procedure rooms; observe, record and report patients’ conditions and reactions to drugs and treatments to providers.
- Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, and preparing for exams.
- Collect patient history including current medications, allergies, symptoms, etc.
- Provide patient care as directed by providers; may include screenings and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
- Assist providers with various procedures as needed.
- Document patient charts and relay information and instructions to patient/family. Document all interventions, phone calls, patient/family responses, medications dispensed or prescribed, hospital data, etc. in the medical record.
- Answer patient calls and messages; act as a liaison between patient and provider.
- Perform clerical responsibilities as assigned, which may include filing or sending medical records and appointment scheduling.
- Handle collection and processing of lab specimens following established standards; adhere to infection control guidelines; maintain equipment, instruments, and stock supplies.
- Use electronic referrals process to complete physician referrals to NCHMD specialists and ancillary services.
- Perform diagnostic x-ray with minimal exposure to self or patients; correctly identify patient prior to exam; introduce self and obtain signature for ABN if required; keep radiology area stocked.
- Minimum of high school diploma or GED.
- Completion of Medical Assistant or practical nursing training program with documented clinical practicum hours; OR Medical Assistant certification; OR at least one year of experience in a medical office as a Medical Assistant or similar role.
- Current Florida Basic X-Ray Machine Operator (BMO) License.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Verified ability to take accurate patient vital signs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to explain required information to patients.
- Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes.
- Intermediate computer skills:
Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows. - Knowledge of basic and specialty-specific medical terminology.
