EXCAVATOR OPERATOR
Summary: Operate an Excavator and other heavy equipment utilized in the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, highways, parking lots, and other large site jobs. The ideal candidate will be experienced in digging for deep sewer and around trench boxes, pipes, and workers in the hole.
Essential Functions:
- Operate an excavator and other heavy equipment used in road, site, or highway construction and paving
- Follow daily procedures and protocols as set forth in job orientations and trainings, or as instructed by supervisor
- Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to supervisor; clean equipment
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices
- Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy/roads/highway/ residential/ commercial construction projects; perform manual work in preparing surfaces for paving
- Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures
- Ensure that proper incident reporting procedures are followed
- Work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule
- High School Diploma, GED, or Trade School preferred
- Valid Driver's License
- At least five years' experience operating an Excavator for Underground Utilities in Road Construction
- Proficiently operate an Excavator for digging for deep sewer and around trench boxes, pipes, and workers in the hole
- Considerable knowledge of heavy-equipment operating principles
- Drive and operate equipment under varying working conditions
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operation, as well as methods, materials, and tools used in street and road construction work
- Perform manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions
- Ability to work from construction specifications or blueprints
