Position: Special Education Teacher

FLSA: Exempt, Full-Time

ISBE Category: Teacher

Qualifications: Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) and Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) endorsement or approval encompassing the grade levels and age ranges of the students

Salary: $50,000 - $70,000/annually

Turning Pointe Autism Foundation is looking for a Special Education Teacher to develop and implement programs for a classroom, addressing and meeting the needs and goals of the students. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills and a willingness to collaborate with team members.

Responsibilities:
  • Implement curricular and utilize best practice teaching methods, IEP goals, Transition Plans, and ISBE guidelines
  • Prepare, adapt, and deliver assessment and instructional material
  • Plan and collaborate on community-based outings for students that link to classroom instruction
  • Develop measurable benchmarks for student goals and use data to measure goal progress by selecting appropriate assessments, accommodations, instructional materials, and supplies
  • Evaluate student's academic progress following data analysis processes and procedures
  • Supervise students in classrooms and across program environments
  • Develop, implement, and maintain students' IEP programming and required reports
  • Participate in teacher trainings and professional development as required
  • Collaborate with family home teams by meeting with parents and supporting generalization of skills to home and community environments
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with families
  • Supervise and support classroom staff (Lead IBI, IBIs, RBTs) including but not limited to: staff training, organizing schedules (classroom staff & students), goal fidelity, instruction delivery, classroom management, etc.
  • Facilitate classroom meetings and provide and receive feedback from classroom staff
  • Collaborating with classroom BCBA, maintain and implement the integrity of behavior support plans
  • Understanding the importance of student dignity and respect by maintaining student hygiene and bathroom needs includes but is not limited to: toileting, wiping, diaper changing, tooth brushing, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Related Service Team to ensure the generalization of skills and consistent programming
  • Meet regularly with Coaches and Team Leaders to ensure fluid and consistent programming
  • Work with the TPAF team in a collaborative manner
  • Demonstrates professionalism in both the school and community settings
  • Maintain compliance in student records (i.e., classroom binders), as required by ISBE and TPAF
  • Perform other work and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements

Experience & Skills:
  • Ability to work with students impacted by autism or other developmentally disabling disorders preferred
  • Ability to implement behavior support plans
  • Knowledge of the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis
  • Ability to work as a team member in a therapeutic and/or educational environment
  • Possess a patient, calm and organized approach
Physical Demands:
  • May require lifting and supporting up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to implement crisis protocols, which may include physical crisis management procedures
  • May require bending, stooping, and kneeling
  • Must be able to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations
  • May require standing and circulating for extended periods of time.
  • Work in an environment of moderate to high stress levels
  • Must be able to have daily contact with students, teachers, and school staff
