Job Summary

The Medical Assistant I ensures optimum patient care through efficient rooming of patients, good communication with patients and staff, performing medical procedures, providing patient education, follow‑up care instructions, and maintaining accurate daily documentation.

Knowledge of Work
  • Programs available to patients (Medi‑Cal, CHDP, CPSP, Presumptive Eligibility, Family Pact, Every Woman Counts, Sliding Scale)
  • Patient demographic information, insurance identifiers, and guidelines for sterilization of instruments
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and create a positive customer service experience in exam rooms
  • Obtain and document vital signs (height, weight, BMI, temperature, respirations, blood pressure)
  • Collect and document patient history and current health status
  • Disinfect and prepare treatment rooms, equipment, and supplies promptly
  • Provide patient education and follow‑up care instructions
  • Perform panel management and non‑visit tasks as assigned by Provider or Nurse
  • Create and distribute an up‑to‑date on‑call calendar for after‑hours Provider coverage
  • Collaborate with providers to deliver high‑quality care and address health needs and concerns
  • Ensure timely “huddles” for Provider/Manager on each shift
  • Perform routine screening procedures (hearing, vision) and document findings
  • Carry out medical assistant procedures (finger sticks, ear washes, nebulizer treatments, urine dipsticks, specimen collection for throat/urine cultures, wound cleaning, PPD placement, INR, glucose, HCG, Hemoglobin A1C)
  • Administer immunizations and document in the electronic health record
  • Maintain accurate logs, forms, records, and charts
  • Monitor freezer & refrigerator temperatures and take corrective action
  • Run quality assurance tests for equipment functionality
  • Practice safety precautions for self, staff, and patients (sharps, waste handling, cleaning)
  • Communicate with providers, staff, and patients to promote clinic flow and patient hand‑off; report urgent issues to Care Team Operations Supervisor
  • Support teammates during downtime and recommend process improvements through proper channels
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education, Experience & Training
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Accredited medical assistant program completion in California; CA Medical Assistant certification required
  • Phlebotomy Certificate required for some locations
  • Entry‑level position – up to one year of experience
  • Current CPR certification required and must be maintained
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
    Bilingual (English/Spanish) language required
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, strong data entry, electronic health record system required)
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail required
Other Requirements

Communi Care+OLE requires pre‑employment drug‑testing (4‑panel drug‑test includes amphetamines, cocaine, opiates, and PCP).
