PositionDeputy Sheriff II
Responsibilities- Maintain law and order within the County by performing law enforcement activities in a variety of assignments: patrol, investigations, court security and civil process.
- Patrol assigned areas; respond to calls to protect life and property; enforce County and State laws; conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations; direct traffic; issue citations and make arrests as necessary.
- Investigate major crimes against property and persons; conduct follow-up investigations; gather evidence; conduct surveillance; locate and question witnesses; take statements; present information to the District Attorney for charges; appear in court as directed.
- Maintain safety and security in courtrooms; serve as bailiff; transfer inmates; assist courtroom personnel and jurors to ensure smooth operation.
- Serve legal papers (subpoenas, summons, complaints, writs of attachment, etc.); serve warrants and make arrests; maintain necessary files and reports.
- Experience:
One year of professional law enforcement experience as a paid, full-time Peace Officer in California. - Education:
Equivalent to completion of high school; completion of two years of college is highly desired. - License/Certification:
Possession of a valid California Driver s License and a valid Basic Certificate issued by the California Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (POST). - Out-of-State Lateral Applicants:
Proof of enrollment in the CA POST Basic Requalification Course must be submitted at time of application if lacking the CA POST Certificate.
- Applicants must be 21 years of age.
- Willing to work nights, weekends, holidays and/or rotating shifts.
