DSH-Napa Mall Services has an opening for one permanent full time Teacher with an Education Specialist Instruction Credential. DSH-Napa provides centralized treatment program services, including education classes to forensic and LPS adults who are moderately to severely disabled with behavioral, intellectual, physical, psychiatric, and/or medical conditions. All treatment is designed to meet clinical treatment objectives and focus on life skills training designed to help individuals develop techniques needed to successfully function as independently as possible by emphasizing basic life skills, social skills, academic skills, high school equivalency test preparation, vocational training, employment preparation, community living, recreation and leisure, physical education, personal health and wellness, technology, and literacy.
Teachers work with individuals with IEP’s/Special Education needs and with groups for Adult Basic Education classes, Adult Secondary Education as well as aiding with Post-Secondary Education. Teachers’ tasks include evaluating, planning, assigning, and supervising work; preparing courses of study and weekly lesson plans; counseling students as to progress in the instructional program; working with students and helping them set and meet educational needs and goals;
participating in program evaluation; assisting management with continuous improvement plans; contributing to monthly reporting for Sacramento and CDE; and participating in extracurricular programs. In addition, teachers may work with interdisciplinary treatment teams (IDT) by providing information of an educational nature for their caseload. Teachers need to be physically able to help escort patients to and from their living quarters to the school.
They must also be willing to continue their educational development; work in a State Hospital; participate in group-oriented treatment programs; co‑teach with other teachers or CTE instructors; maintain an empathetic and objective understanding of students in an institutional setting; demonstrate teaching ability; emotional stability; tact; and patience.

Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of three percent in exchange for five hours per month of Personal Leave.
