Overview

The enrichment program area leader is responsible for preparing and implementing safe, fun, and appropriate programs for the blind and visually impaired children and adults. They will coordinate and oversee all camp enrichment activities.

STATUS

Seasonal Full-Time, Exempt Camp Worker (as defined in Section 18897 of the Health and Safety Code). Will be needed approximately mid-June to mid-August. Final dates will be confirmed at offer.

Founded in San Francisco in 1902, the Light House’s purpose is to promote the independence, equality and self-reliance of people who are blind or visually impaired. The Light House is currently in a period of growth, increasing our capacity to serve more low-vision and blind clients.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High School graduate
  • Some college education preferred
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Previous work in a camp, school, or community service setting
  • Experience working with individuals who are blind/visually impaired preferred
  • Knowledge of Braille and/or sign language preferred
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Enrichment Program Leadership
  • Plan, direct, and supervise a safe, engaging, and dynamic enrichment program.
  • Lead and instruct classes and activities in designated enrichment areas.
  • Assess and evaluate the success of enrichment programs, making improvements as needed.
  • Safety & Staff Training
  • Train staff on their responsibilities in the enrichment areas, ensuring proper supervision and instruction.
  • Ensure all campers and staff follow safety procedures within enrichment spaces.
  • Assist counselors in developing activity kits for cabins or special events.
  • Facility & Equipment Management
  • Set up and maintain enrichment program areas.
  • Teach and monitor proper use of equipment and materials.
  • Secure enrichment equipment when not in use.
  • Conduct daily safety and cleanliness checks of enrichment spaces.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies, ensuring timely replacements.
  • Camper & Staff Supervision
  • Assist with camper placements in enrichment classes and living assignments as needed.
  • Evaluate volunteers, Counselors-in-Training (CITs), and counselors throughout the summer, providing feedback to the Assistant Director.
  • Step in as a camp counselor when necessary to support camper supervision.
  • Camp Engagement & Collaboration
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, leading and assisting as assigned.
  • Help organize and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and all-camp activities.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings.

  • Communicate regularly with supervisors, campers, and colleagues in our immediate teams and across the agency, ensuring 100% of verbal and written communication is clear, professional, effective, and done in a timely manner.
  • Maintain 100% confidentiality of individual health, behavior concerns, and other personal information of campers and staff.
