Overview
CRU Oyster Bar on Nantucket Island is seeking a dynamic Lead Sommelier to help steer our world-class wine program in our fifteenth season. This is a pivotal role for a professional who is a “student of the vine” but also a master of hospitality. You will work closely with the Wine Director to steward our best-in-class list while leading a high-performance team in an iconic, fast-paced waterfront environment.
Responsibilities- Operations:
Assist in managing all aspects of the wine program, including weekly staff education, ordering, delivery, inventory management, proper stock levels and EOM COGS reporting, along with working with the events manager and reservations team to ensure that special requests are handled with ease. - Floor Leadership:
Lead the sommelier team by example, delivering prompt, attentive table and bar service and building long-standing relationships with our guests. - Sales & Growth:
Use your extensive knowledge to recommend wines that drive sales while effectively controlling costs and managing guest expectations.
- A Hospitality Pro:
You understand the difference between “service” and “hospitality”. You strive to make every guest feel at home, whether they are buying a $98 bottle or a $2750 icon. - Thoughtful Knowledge:
You are a “student of the vine” with an extensive knowledge of wine. You should be able to explain how soil and climate marry to create each note in the glass. You organically share stories about our program and experiences with our guests. - Detail Oriented:
You possess excellent organizational and communication skills and thrive in a fast-paced team-oriented environment with grace under pressure.
- Experience:
Previous experience in a high-end restaurant and a Wine Certification (WSET Level 3 or CMS Certified) is preferred, but experience will be considered. - Availability:
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays May 1 – October 16.
- Competitive compensation package, based on experience. Assistance with housing is available.
