CT Tech – Nantucket Cottage Hospital

Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Job Summary

Performs diagnostic radiographic, CT, MRI, or mammography studies according to department protocols, HFAP/TJC/local regulatory/CMS, State and Federal Regulations. Functions as the first line of interaction with patients and is responsible for accurately acquiring, labeling, and transmitting images to PACS. Participates in quality improvement activities, promotes teamwork, and maintains supplies and equipment for assigned modalities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities General
  • Positions patients and sets technical factors for all diagnostic procedures. Sets high personal standards for film and image quality.
  • Follows department exam protocols.
  • Independently recognizes and performs duties that need to be done without direct assignment. Establishes priorities; organizes work and time to meet them.
  • Completes all ordered exams as per protocol, documenting why an exam is not completed per protocol.
  • Modifies patient protocols based on the patient’s physical and cognitive abilities, discusses issues with the radiologist, and properly documents patient information.
  • Greets patients by confirming identification; reviews imaging request; checks for special instructions; confirms anticipated service with patients.
  • Ensures all exams are accurately labeled with patient , date, technologist , and exam time.
  • Follows hospital policies to reduce the risk of wrong‑site, wrong‑patient, and wrong‑procedure occurrences.
  • Ensures compliance with HFAP/TJC/local regulatory/CMS, State and Federal regulations.
  • Maintains medical and surgical aseptic procedures; adheres to proper infection control guidelines.
  • Assesses pain interfering with imaging, making appropriate physician contact for intervention.
  • Understands Process Improvement (PI) and participates in new and ongoing PI activities.
  • Maintains neat and clean workplace appropriate to hospital standards.
  • Work pace is consistent with other workers. Assists the radiologist with therapeutic procedures by having all supplies and techniques ready.
  • Informs and educates patients and families regarding procedures to be performed.
  • Reduces risk of health‑care acquired infections through proper hand washing and equipment disinfecting.
  • Documents all medication reactions or infiltrations on appropriate form.
  • Works to improve communication effectiveness among caregivers.
  • Plans and assigns work efficiently based on department guidelines.
  • Conducts job‑specific orientation and on‑the‑job training for department employees.
  • Assists in implementing the Departmental Performance Improvement Program and organizes PI documents.
  • Deals with complaints in a professional and efficient manner and reports them to the Department Director.
  • Properly verifies all studies for accuracy and quality in the PACS system prior to radiologist interpretation.
  • Demonstrates safe use of equipment; reports malfunctions and calls for service immediately.
  • Attends scheduled in‑service and mandatory in‑service; communicates ideas for safer equipment layout.
  • Maintains all licensure and CEU requirements per governing regulations and department policy.
  • Demonstrates courteous and appropriate telephone skills.
  • Adheres to attendance and punctuality requirements. Provides notification for absences or tardiness and takes corrective action.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Radiography
  • Sets technical factors to minimize patient dose and utilizes radiation safety techniques while performing radiographic procedures, shielding patients appropriately.
  • Wears a radiation (dosimetry) badge per protocol.
  • Uses personal protective equipment appropriately.
  • Performs radiographic exams at the bedside and in operating rooms, providing diagnostic x‑rays to surgeons and staff on patients unable to be x‑rayed in the Radiology Service.
Mammography
  • Oversees all regulatory compliance issues as defined by the FDA and ACR.
