Overview

Job Summary:

Performs Diagnostic Radiographic and CT Scan, MRI, or Mammography according to department protocols, HFAP/TJC/local regulatory/CMS, State and Federal Regulations. Functions as the first line interaction with customers and supports imaging needs. Participates in PI/QC activities and assists in Maintaining Performance Improvement Program. Promotes teamwork and customer service. Assists scheduling and maintains supplies and equipment for assigned modality. Responsible for accurately acquiring images and transmitting images to PACS.

Responsibilities
  • Positions patients and sets technical factors for all diagnostic procedures; maintains high image quality.
  • Follows department exam protocols and prioritizes work to meet department needs.
  • Works independently to complete exams per protocol; documents reasons if an exam is not completed per protocol.
  • Modifies patient protocols for individual patient needs; discusses issues with Radiologist and documents appropriately.
  • Greets patients, confirms identification and imaging requests, reviews special instructions, and confirms anticipated service with patients.
  • Labels all exams accurately with patient , date, technologist , and time of exam.
  • Complies with hospital policies to reduce risk of wrong-site, wrong-patient, and wrong-procedure occurrences.
  • Maintains compliance with HFAP/TJC/local regulatory/CMS, state and federal regulations.
  • Maintains sterile/aseptic technique and infection control guidelines.
  • Assesses pain impacting imaging procedure and communicates with the physician for intervention when needed.
  • Understands Process Improvement (PI) and participates in PI activities; maintains a neat, clean workplace.
  • Educates patients and families regarding procedures; reduces risk of healthcare-associated infections through proper hand washing and equipment disinfection.
  • Documents medication reactions/infiltrations; supports effective communication among caregivers.
  • Plans and assigns work efficiently according to department guidelines; conducts job-specific orientation and on-the-job training as needed.
  • Supports Departmental Performance Improvement Program and documents PI activities on demand.
  • Addresses complaints professionally and reports them to the Department Director as appropriate.
  • Verifies studies for accuracy and quality in the PACS system prior to Radiologist interpretation.
  • Operates and maintains equipment safely; reports malfunctions promptly per department protocol.
  • Attends scheduled in-service training; suggests safety improvements for equipment, tools, or processes.
  • Maintains licensure and CEU requirements per governing regulations and department policy.
  • Demonstrates courteous telephone skills and adheres to attendance/punctuality requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Radiography
  • Sets technical factors to minimize patient dose and follows radiation safety standards; determines pregnancy status when applicable.
  • Wears dosimetry badge and uses personal protective equipment appropriately.
  • Performs radiographic exams at the bedside and in operating rooms; assists surgeons and staff as needed.
Mammography
  • Oversees regulatory compliance as defined by FDA and ACR.
  • Maintains quality control testing protocols and MQSA/ACR documentation; coordinates annual inspections.
  • Collaborates with Mammography Technologists, Physicians, RNs, Physicists, and Field Service Engineers to ensure MQSA compliance.
  • Provides instruction and feedback to technologists as needed.
CT
  • Sets technical factors to minimize patient dose; follows radiation safety standards; determines pregnancy status when applicable.
  • Operates CT to obtain diagnostic images; ensures proper patient preparation, positioning, and immobilization; selects imaging factors.
  • Checks calibration and operation of equipment; reports malfunctions and needs for repairs.
  • Proficient in IV contrast administration and related procedures.
