Position: Town of Nantucket Internship Program - Summer 2026

Description

The Town of Nantucket 2026 Internship Program is designed to provide valuable work experience to students while supporting the operational needs of our departments. The program aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application, giving interns hands‑on exposure to real‑world challenges within the Town of Nantucket.

Compensation

$26.00 per hour (first year of employment) - $27.50 per hour (fourth year of employment)

Essential Duties / Responsibilities / Functions
  • Offer meaningful, hands‑on work experiences.
  • Develop professional skills and knowledge.
  • Support department goals with fresh perspectives and additional resources.
  • Develop student pathways for future employment with the Town of Nantucket.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Hours of Work:
    Interns may work up to 40 hours per week. Working hours between 20-40 hours per week is only permissible for periods of less than 6 months of employment. Interns that work 19 hours or less may be employed for greater periods of time.
  • Benefit Restrictions:
    Interns are not eligible for insurance benefits through the Town of Nantucket. To comply with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) guidelines, interns are limited to working a maximum number of hours within the ACA lookback period to ensure they are classified as part‑time employees. The lookback period is a method used by employers to determine if an employee should be classified as full‑time based on their hours worked over a set period.
  • Massachusetts Child Labor Laws:
