CPO-EA R and Assistance Worker

Overview

Employment and Assistance Workers (EAWs) are an essential part of the Service Delivery Division at the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. EAWs provide income and disability supports to individuals across British Columbia. They may work in-person through the Community Services Branch or via phone and virtual channels through the Virtual Services Branch.

• Work within a busy client service environment, organizing workload and setting priorities to meet performance targets.
• Gather information and assess eligibility for supports and services for clients in crisis.
• Maintain compassion, composure, and clarity during difficult conversations.
• Use de-escalation techniques to manage situations.
• Display empathy and resilience when interacting with citizens.

• Secondary School graduation or equivalent (GED).
• One (1) or more years experience delivering high-standard client service in a fast-paced, high-volume, rapidly changing environment (in person, via virtual technologies or telephone).
• One (1) or more years experience working with computer applications including MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Experience providing services to clients experiencing poverty, substance use or mental health issues.

• Experience in community-based or social service roles supporting clients experiencing poverty, substance use or mental health issues (e.g., shelter work, outreach, harm-reduction).

• Must be willing and able to display resilience in the face of adversity and demonstrate empathy interacting with citizens.
• Must be willing and able to use de-escalation techniques to manage some situations.

5 positions available. Full-time on-site requirements. A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required. Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
