The RoleAs a Support Worker, you will:
- Assist individuals in their homes and/or community with daily living needs
- Support participation in community activities, recreation, and social inclusion
- Communicate effectively in ASL and embrace Deaf culture
- Apply crisis intervention and positive behavioural strategies (behaviour as communication)
- Collaborate with families, professionals, and community partners
- Education and or experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities, including relevant training such as CSW, RCA, SIVA, or equivalent experience.
- Provide person-centred support with daily living activities while promoting choice, voice, self-determination, and community participation in alignment with Person-Centred Plans.
- Communicate effectively using American Sign Language (ASL), recognize behaviour as communication, and apply trauma-informed and positive behavioural approaches to support wellbeing and safety.
- Demonstrate respect for Deaf culture and identity, with a commitment to ongoing ASL learning and professional development.
- Work collaboratively with families, community partners, and the Bonaventure team while upholding organizational values, policies, human rights, and health and safety standards.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License
- RCMP Criminal Record Check (Schedule
A) - MCFD Hub Screening
- First Aid with CPR Certificate, Food Safe Level 1
- Immunization Record
- Physician’s Declaration & TB Screen
- Three professional references (including one recent employer) i
- ASL certification (or willingness to achieve one)
