ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Accountant in either their Duncan or Nanaimo offices to support the financial operations of the business.
This role offers exposure to full-cycle accounting within a project-driven environment and provides the opportunity to work closely with operational leadership.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting the broader accounting function. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to internal controlsLead the month-end close process, coordinating deadlines and deliverablesPerform full-cycle accounting including AR, AP, payroll, benefits, journal entries, reconciliations, job costing, and intercompany transactionsSupport cash management processes including deposits, receipts, and bank reconciliationsMonitor and report on inventory, fixed assets, amortization, leases, loans, accruals, and prepaidsAllocate and track equipment-related repair, maintenance, and operational costsPrepare monthly and annual financial statements and support tax-related filings and remittancesLiaise with external auditors, advisors, financial institutions, insurers, and tax authoritiesAssist with budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysisMaintain accurate working papers and documentationSupport development and enhancement of accounting policies and proceduresEnsure compliance with indirect taxes and regulatory requirements (e.g., GST, PST, WCB)Provide financial insights to operational leaders to assist with business decision-makingProvide coverage and support during peak periods or staff absencesREQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldCPA designation or active pursuit considered an asset but not essential2–3 years of full-cycle accounting experienceExperience with in construction, project-based, or industrial environments considered advantageousProficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage, Quick Books, or similar ERP systems)Intermediate to advanced Excel skillsStrong written and verbal communication skillsHighly organized with strong time management abilitiesDetail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and deadlinesAnalytical mindset with the ability to work both independently and within a teamSolid understanding of accounting standards and regulatory complianceCOMPENSATION
