Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN with EPIC experience and BLS certification for a night shift assignment.
Responsibilities- Work in a 24-bed adult Med/Surg unit in an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes general medical-surgical, COPD, withdrawals (CIWA), pancreatitis, direct admits from critical access facilities, infections, and post-surgical cases including orthopedics, urology, OB/GYN, and general surgeries
- Nurse to patient ratio is 1:5 for both day and night shifts
- Night shifts from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. with 6 twelve-hour weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
- Floating required to other Med/Surg units and sister facilities with rotational and mid-shift float possible
- Uses EPIC electronic medical record system
- No on-call or standby requirements
- Any color scrubs may be worn
- Primary responsibilities include delivering patient care for a diverse Med/Surg population, completing ADLs, monitoring vitals, documenting I/Os, ambulating patients, providing wound care, and assisting with blood sugar checks
- No requirement to titrate drips; heparin and PCA use may be encountered
- RTs are available to manage all respiratory therapy equipment
- Team-oriented, traveler-friendly work environment with strong support from charge nurses and assistant nurse managers
- Unit provides 1-3 days of orientation with a preceptor
- Bedside shift report is expected for every patient transfer
- Modified self-scheduling is offered but flexibility is required to fill scheduling gaps
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Holiday rotation may be required
- Active compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg or PCU nursing experience
- 2 years of overall RN experience required
- Orthopedic experience preferred
- Experience with EPIC is preferred
- Driver’s license required
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from the past 12 months and one supervisor or peer from the past 3 years
- No local candidates within a 50-mile radius
- Permanent employees must be separated for at least one year before applying for a travel assignment
