Overview

At Amazon, we prioritize health, safety, and well‑being above all else. To support this priority, Amazon seeks an experienced and innovative Senior Regional Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Manager. In this role you will partner with a regional operations team to execute company WHS policies and ensure compliance with all applicable local, regional, and federal regulations. Leveraging lean principles and kaizens, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risk and guarantee a safe and healthful working environment for Amazon’s Associates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as SME of local/regional regulations and company WHS policy.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable Amazon WHS Policies.
  • Measure region and site performance against published requirements in WHS policies; identify plans for deficiencies.
  • Ensure WHS record‑keeping and data integrity; provide Operations with accurate reporting and metrics.
  • Deliver on‑time and quality projects to Operations.
  • Analyze WHS metrics and review incident trends to justify resource allocation.
  • Analyze Global Safety Peer Review results and develop and implement solutions to eliminate exposure to risks.
  • Audit record‑keeping practices and Global WHS Database entries for compliance.
  • Audit workplace organization and Associate behaviors to ensure accurate training, auditing, and scoring.
  • Manage and mentor the FC WHS Manager and WHS Associates in assigned FCs.
  • Spend time at fulfillment centers; seek input from WHS teams, Associates, and leaders on program improvement.
  • Lead soft‑tissue injury reduction efforts with targeted Kaizens in partnership with Operations.
  • Ensure site leadership and Associates are trained and knowledgeable of responsibilities under each policy; audit training quality.
  • Review effectiveness of deployed WHS tools and revise for continual improvement.
  • Partner with corporate and other regional field WHS personnel to integrate global best practices into NA network standards.
Additional Job Elements
  • Lift up to 49 pounds and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
  • Stand/walk for up to 12 hours during shifts.
  • Work in an environment where the noise level varies.
  • Work in an environment subject to variable temperatures and weather (delivery stations include outside loading departments).
  • Continuously climb and descend stairs (applies to sites with stairs).
  • Maintain effective care delivery in emergencies and assist emergency response at the site.
  • Must have or obtain within 3 weeks of start date a valid certifying body’s First Aid, CPR, AED certification.
Basic Qualifications
  • CPR/First Aid Certification, or willingness to obtain it within 3 weeks of start.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 7+ years of increasing responsibilities in EHS or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations.
  • 7+ years of employee and performance management experience.
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
  • Travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Office within one of the designated region's sites; willingness to relocate if not currently within region.
  • Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends, as required to support direct reports and site needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience in a fast‑paced, dynamic organization.
  • Certified Safety Professional preferred.
  • Interest in long‑term career development through assignments in multiple business units across the nation.
  • Prior experience in a management development training program.
  • Track record of effectively managing a safety operation comprising both salaried and hourly staff.
  • Excellent experience in developing others into higher levels of responsibility in an organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with Directors and VPs.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
