POSITION: Dental Assisting Teacher

REPORTS TO: School Principal and CTE Director

SUMMARY: Provides secondary Dental Assisting students with a comprehensive and engaging learning experience through effective instructional strategies in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings. Responsibilities include curriculum development, continuous program improvement, assessment of student learning, effective management of supplies and equipment, and supervision of students in clinical environments. This position may also include teaching Medical Terminology and/or Fundamentals of Health Professions.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain a dynamic learning environment that prepares students for careers in dental assisting and successful completion of the NELDA Dental Assistant Examination.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings using effective instructional strategies and appropriate pacing.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and implement accommodations and modifications as outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), collaborating with special education staff as necessary.
  • Use multiple forms of assessment and student data to monitor progress, adjust instruction, and improve student achievement.
  • Supervise students during laboratory and clinical experiences, ensuring safety, professionalism, and adherence to industry standards.
  • Collaborate with school staff to support the ongoing development and alignment of Health Professions Career Pathways.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with postsecondary institutions (CWI, CSI) and local business and industry partners to enhance instructional relevance and provide meaningful work-based learning opportunities.
  • Integrate Idaho Core Standards and district instructional goals into lesson planning, instruction, and assessment practices.
  • Advise and support the HOSA career-technical student organization, incorporating leadership development and competitive events into the instructional program.
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and positive classroom culture that promotes student responsibility, engagement, and success.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and community stakeholders to support student growth and program success.
  • Participate in professional learning communities, staff meetings, professional development activities, and ongoing professional growth.
  • Maintain accurate records and comply with federal and state laws, district policies, and the Code of Ethics of the Idaho Teaching Profession.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

None.

Education And/Or Experience
  • Current Idaho Education Credential with a Dental Assisting (6-12) endorsement, or willing to obtain
  • Minimum of 5-6 years of experience working as a Dental Assistant (No degree required) or 2-3 of experience as a Dental Hygienist (Bachelor's Degree)
  • Current Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credentials through The Dental Assisting National Board (DANB)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of dental assisting practices, terminology, methods, and techniques.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of professionalism and student conduct.
  • Understanding of curriculum development, instructional methods, and assessment practices.
  • Experience supporting diverse learners, including students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of positive behavior management strategies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and community partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, internet applications, and educational software systems (attendance, grading, reporting).
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and data.
  • Commitment to accountability for student outcomes.
