Primary Function:
Under the direction of the school principal, the Catholic school teacher advances the Diocese’s mission by evangelizing, catechizing, and educating youth within a faith‑centered Catholic school environment.
- Support and uphold the Catholic mission of the school by speaking, acting, and teaching in a manner consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Teachers must not promote any doctrine contrary to Church teaching.
- Demonstrate Gospel values by actively participating in a faith community and remaining open to personal spiritual growth; strive to model the teachings of Jesus through attitude and example.
- Contribute to the development of the school’s faith community by participating in and assisting with the planning of religious and service activities.
- Exhibit strong planning skills by preparing lessons that support academic goals and objectives established by the school, incorporating the Catholic religious curriculum in alignment with diocesan standards and current state requirements.
- Demonstrate teaching competence through thorough knowledge of the academic and religious curriculum; communicate effectively with students; organize classroom materials and learning activities to maximize instructional time and student engagement.
- Develop and implement effective assessment methods directly aligned with curriculum objectives, consistently and clearly evaluating student progress.
- Establish and maintain a consistent disciplinary approach that promotes self‑direction, positive self‑image, and high standards of student behavior; manage inappropriate behavior effectively.
- Maintain a functional, organized, and welcoming learning environment.
- Collaborate with school and diocesan administration; work cooperatively with all staff to foster positive relationships with students and parents.
- Demonstrate professional responsibility at all times by enforcing school policies and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and present a professional appearance and demeanor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Coordination and manual dexterity.
- Normal mental and visual capabilities.
- Ability to lift items typically required in a standard office or classroom environment.
- Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling materials, hearing, carrying items, and keyboarding.
- Strong commitment to fostering lay leadership within the Roman Catholic Church.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and presentation abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and human‑relations skills; must be self‑motivated, well‑organized, and able to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency with current technology used to support classroom instruction.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Flexibility in assessing needs and adapting strategies within an educational environment.
- Successful completion of a criminal history and background check.
- Professional demeanor with a clean and neat personal appearance.
- Current Idaho teaching license or actively working toward certification.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Diocesan ministry certification or willingness to work toward certification.
