Position Purpose
The Admissions clerks greet patients, inquire about medical aliments, confirm prescheduled procedures, gathers/interviews incoming patients prior to admission, collects insurance, emergency information, and other data required to bring the patient into the hospital system.
Job Description
- Admit patients promptly (within 5–8 minutes for inpatients/day surgery, 5 minutes for ER)
- Verify insurance and obtain pre-certification within 24 hours of admission
- Collect required signatures for treatment, insurance, and other forms with proper
- Assign patient rooms and explain hospital pre-payment policies
- Assist patients in understanding insurance benefits; refer uninsured patients to Credit Counselors
- Confirm and update patient personal and insurance information, including emergency contacts
- Collect payments, deductibles, and coinsurance at the time of service
- Input patient data accurately and promptly into the Hospital Information System (HIS)
- Prepare and apply patient identification wristbands
- Arrange patient escorts to rooms when applicable
- Handle difficult situations with care and professionalism
- Provide courteous, accurate, and timely support to internal departments regarding billing and account information
- Respond promptly to requests from managers, insurance companies, Medicare, and financial agencies
