  • Mark the location of utilities on the ground using paint, flags, or other markers.
  • Operate trenchers, backhoes, directional drills, and other equipment for installation or maintenance of underground utilities.
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained, operated according to safety and operational guidelines, and perform routine inspections and minor repairs.
  • Follow safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure safety on the job site.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations and industry standards related to underground utilities.
  • Conduct pre-job safety meetings and risk assessments.
  • Assist or oversee the excavation of trenches and pits for utility installation or repair.
  • Support the installation of underground utilities, including laying pipes or cables and connecting them as required.
  • Backfill and restore excavation sites after completion.
  • Maintain accurate records of utility locations, excavation activities, and equipment usage.
  • Complete and submit reports detailing work performed, issues encountered, and changes to utility maps or plans.
  • Communicate with clients or project managers to provide updates, address concerns, and ensure project requirements are met.
  • Provide clear information about potential impacts on property or services.
  • Collaborate with other team members, including utility crews, construction workers, and supervisors, to ensure efficient and effective project completion.
  • Assist in training or mentoring less experienced team members as needed.
What You’ll Need
  • Prior experience in utility locating, equipment operation, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in using utility locating equipment and tools.
  • Ability to operate and maintain excavation and construction machinery.
  • Strong understanding of underground utility systems and safety practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions and perform physical tasks.
  • May require certifications in utility locating, equipment operation, or safety standards (e.g., OSHA, CDL for equipment operation).
  • May work outdoors in various weather conditions and potentially hazardous environments.
  • May include irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, depending on project needs and emergencies.
