A Brief Overview

Responsible for training and supervision of Pre-Registration, Pre-Access, Referral Coordinators, and/or Patient Service Representatives. Supervises daily activities of employee partners, including the processes of pre-registration, insurance verification, benefit verification, referral management, customer service, and/or patient financial responsibility, as well as an understanding of how these areas impact the flow of work throughout the department and organization. Ensures the quality standards for services are met each month.

Schedules staff for adequate coverage to support operational needs. Measures department productivity and staff appropriately according to department KPIs. Identifies opportunities for improvement and service recovery. Performs mentoring and coaching of assigned team members as appropriate. Provides ongoing accuracy and productivity reporting. A substantial portion of the normal duties require proper judgment, sensitivity, and strict adherence to Tidelands Health's policy on confidentiality.

The individual has access to patients' medical information, as well as financial information. The individual maintains and has access to confidential departmental personnel files.

What You Will Do
  • Prepare staffing schedules
  • Ensure accuracy of all patient information as well as physician orders
  • Provide recommendation and coordination of process-related improvements and changes
  • Measure competency standard for all assigned team members
  • Work with department leadership to perform supervisory oversight of assigned employee partners including but not limited to delegation, employee counseling/corrective actions, appropriate documentation and follow up
  • Ensure department goals and KPIs are met
Education Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required
  • Associate's Degree in a business-related field Preferred
Experience Qualifications
  • Five (5) years patient access, customer service, and/or management experience Required
  • Understanding of Patient Access procedures and policies Required
  • Two (2) years’ recent experience with insurance payer regulations Required
  • Two (2) years’ recent experience as a Facilitator of Staff Trainer Required
  • Two (2) years recent experience in Healthcare Supervision including the oversight of Patient Access, Financial Counseling, Pre-Cert services, or similar Preferred
  • Prior training in Medical Terminology Required
  • Hospital Business Office or Scheduling experience Preferred
  • Previous Coding experience Preferred

  • Ability to manage multi-tasking efficiently and professionally required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of registration/scheduling functions and responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently and to train and direct others
  • Able to perform basic mathematical calculations, balance and reconcile figures accurately
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
  • Able to work effectively with internal and external customers, to include patients, visitors, vendors, providers, employees, etc
  • Ability to perform the duties of the staff supervised is required
  • Ability to independently plan, schedule, organize and respond appropriately on a wide variety of subjects and situations
